Internationale erkenning voor spullendeel-platform Peerby
Peerby ontvangt tweede prijs voor circulaire business tijdens het World Economic Forum
Peerby is tijdens de openingsavond van het World Economic Forum in Davos verkozen tot runner-up voor The Ecolab Award for Circular Economy Digital Disruptor. Het platform dat gebruikers in staat stelt om spullen te delen met buren wordt geprezen om haar bijdrage in het terugdringen van de uitstoot van broeikasgassen, de vermindering van afvalstoffen en de besparing op grondstoffen. Daarnaast erkent de jury de sociale impact die Peerby teweegbrengt door de ontmoetingen die plaatsvinden rondom het delen van spullen. Peerby heeft wereldwijd meer dan 200.000 gebruikers.

Nederland was ook goed vertegenwoordigd in andere categorieën van deze wereldwijde award. Frans Timmermans, ING en Blackbear werden runner-up in binnen hun eigen categorie. The Circular Awards worden sinds 2015 uitgereikt tijdens het World Economic Forum aan bedrijven en organisaties die op innovatieve wijze werken aan circulaire oplossingen.
Over Peerby
Peerby.com, founded in 2011, is now the largest online sharing community in the Netherlands, enabling neighbors to share various goods like tools, electronics, and bicycles, thereby fostering community connections and reducing waste. After initial success and expansion of its communities to 30 cities in Europe and the U.S., Peerby faced challenges in building a financially sustainable model in 2017, prompting a pivot to a paid membership model in 2020, which significantly boosted revenue growth.

Founder Daan Weddepohl was Guardian Tech Talent, #13 of the Trouw newspaper sustainable top-100, and he was nominated as Dutch entrepreneur of the year.
